This month Silversea Cruises invited me on a cruise from Athens to Dubrovnik along with three other lovely bloggers, allowing me to sample a slice of cruise life for the very first time! The actual cruise ship was sailing all the way to Venice, but we disembarked a couple of stops early, missing Hvar and Venice. While on some cruise liners you may have to pay extra for things like alcoholic beverages, on Silversea Cruises everything is all-inclusive. This meant I was able to order as many cocktails as I wanted by the pool and order whatever I liked at meal times without having to worry about how much things cost or settling a tab at the end of the cruise. Want to order a bottle of Bombay Sapphire to your room? No problem. Thinking about ordering a filet mignon by the swimming pool? Fancy a glass of champagne at sunset? Oh go on then! Built in , the Silver Spirit can accommodate guests and has a guest to staff ratio of nearly 1 to 1, with personal butlers for every suite. It was incredibly roomy 35 square metres , with a comfortable queen size bed, a proper living area, a full walk-in wardrobe and a teak veranda so I could sit outside and enjoy the view every morning. I was expecting the bathroom to be quite small on a ship but mine was full-size, with a very powerful rain shower and a separate bath tub. I believe there is a choice of amenity brands but I stuck with the Bvlgari because they smelt so lovely!

Updated: Jan But in order to explore a polar region, there is really no getting around it. So what you will read here refers to only my third cruise ever , in my year travel history. But I also admittedly prefer crowded places in small doses. Regardless, I have simply found most enjoyment from driving, hiking, cycling or some other type of activity-focused trip. But surprisingly, this polar experience with Silversea Cruises made me realize that I can stay active while using a ship as a home base and it had me reconsider what cruising has to offer, especially in remote area exploration.

Aside from my suite, this was my favorite place to enjoy peace and quiet. Let me just say, they went above and beyond to make the guest experience memorable. Dubrovnik — This was our last stop on the cruise. One of the perks that I believe is unique to Silversea Cruises is the room service. However I quickly learned that my balance for coordinated activities rapidly declined when a ship this size was rocking on high seas. We came from Celebrity Suite previously and I thought the food and service on Silver Sea was just as good as anything we had on Celebrity. But this is only if you are willing to share a triple room, with a porthole window. I believe there is a choice of amenity brands but I stuck with the Bvlgari because they smelt so lovely! We enjoyed a delicious set tasting menu involving six courses in a small, intimate setting with just a few tables. From Italian to Sushi, delectable French cuisine and cooking your own steak, there really is something for everyone. During our week we had the great pleasure of doing a galley tour with Jerome Foussier their executive chef which was fascinating. When I found my clothes were a bit creased, I just trotted down the corridor to the ironing room where I ironed the clothes myself. I was surprised to discover how much cruising has evolved over the years. It was troubling for me to watch guests get too close to animals, make mistakes with biosecurity and wander around confused at times, simply because of the language barrier. My walk-in wardrobe was so big that I was actually able to take everything out of my suitcase and store it away for the entire week! The layout of the deck gave rise to limited sunbed availability on sea days - not helped by individuals grabbing the double sunbeds for themselves.
