Nightgate Inn is an inn located along the main road between Dawnstar and Windhelm. Alongside the inn is a small lake with a sheltered pier. Its layout is typical of inns found throughout Skyrim. It has a large common room with a bar at one end and a large fire pit in the center. There are three bedrooms on the main floor with stairs leading down to a large cellar where there is another room that is being rented long-term by an Orc , Balagog gro-Nolob. The inn is owned by Hadring , who will tell the Dragonborn that the inn was built by his great-grandfather.

Nightgate Inn is an inn in a remote region of the Pale. Hadring tends the counter, buying and selling food and drinks , and renting out rooms for 10 gold. Like many other taverns, Nightgate Inn consists of a huge taproom with a fireplace in the center and the counter at the opposite end of the room from the entrance. Three wooden tables are scattered around the taproom, all of them set with food and drink. In addition to the taproom, the inn also has three smaller rooms with single beds, one of them reserved for paying customers, and a set of stairs leading down to the basement. To the left when you enter, is the first table which is dressed with two loaves of bread , two bottles of wine , and one bottle of alto wine. In the northeastern corner stands three food barrels. Next to the barrels are another table with two loaves of bread, and more wine and alto wine, two bottles of each. The next table is where you can usually find permanent resident Fultheim. The table in front of him is dressed with three loaves of bread, two bottles of alto wine, and one bottle of regular wine. Next up is a set of shelves with two elves ear and seven bottles of Nord mead. The bar takes up most of the northwestern part of the taproom and Hadring can be found behind the counter 24 hours a day.

Balagog gro-Nolob , or more frequently known as The Gourmet in his books, is an Orsimer residing at the Nightgate Inn , southeast of Dawnstar. He is described by the innkeeper as being more refined than most other Orcs. When intimidated , Anton reveals that Balagog is The Gourmet. Gaius Maro kept him in Skyrim in case plans changed. The Dragonborn finds the Orc at Nightgate Inn and assassinates him to fill his place at Castle Dour and poison the Emperor with a jarrin root. To divert suspicion, the Dragonborn has to hide Balagog's corpse in or behind a wine barrel, behind some stacks of hay, under a bed, or dump it in a nearby lake. Inside is not much different; when asked why he drinks there, the only other patron, Fultheim , says, "Where else would I go to drink? The Stormcloak Courier may come to this inn, and must either be robbed or killed in order to retrieve the StormCloak Documents [ sic ] [Do not change this to Stormcloak Documents. This misspelled word is how it appears in-game.
