Way back when I was in my early teens, I had a favorite way of closing shirts, skirts, pants and bags by just applying snap fasteners instead of a button, snap buttons for clothing. Modern snap fasteners were patented by German inventor Heribert Bauer in as the "Federknopf-Verschluss", a novelty fastener for men's trousers. Some attribute the invention to Bertel Sanders, of Denmark.
