Basically homeschooling is not allowed in Germany, they are really strict about it. The romeikes taught their kids at home because of religious reasons and eventually the police came around, they had to pay fees, the authorities were about to take the kids to school, etc. They applied for asylum because they feel persecuted for being Christians and wanting to teach their kids at home.
