The coat of arms of Puerto Rico was first granted by the Spanish Crown on November 8, , making it the oldest heraldic achievement still currently in use in the Americas. A law was passed in that reestablished the historical armorial bearings as the arms of the territory. Then in , after numerous investigations and amendments, the current version was adopted. The main element of the coat of arms of Puerto Rico is the Lamb of God. There have been different variations of the coat of arms throughout Puerto Rico's history. All of the states and territories of the United States employ a seal to authenticate and ratify documents and accordingly a seal of Puerto Rico exists, but the traditional coat of arms is used as the main emblem of the territory. The seal has most of the elements of the coat of arms, but the religious elements have been stripped away in accordance with the separation of church and state in the United States.

The Flag of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is rectangular in shape and consists of five alternating horizontal stripes, three red and two white, with an isosceles triangle with a five-pointed white star in the center based on the hoist side. Nevertheless, the identity of the person who proposed that the new Flag of Puerto Rico be similar to the Cuban flag with inverted colors is open to question.
