I'm serious! And I have had to learn to not expect to feel only two inches tall with some of them! For those who need help in this area, this one is a Winner! I am certain I did use the "If you really loved me Rena Sherwood. And some of the defense patterns seem overly clever and more likely to trigger further conflict than to defuse it. These days the book would be called "Recognizing and combating microaggressions and verbal abuse" and it might be a bestseller. Elgin explains what the best tactic to take when someone has a temper tantrum, how to respond to someone's sensory modes: seeing, hearing feeling and how to frame a conflict into a non-attacking three part message. She is a supporter of feminist science fiction, saying "women need to realize that SF is the only genre of literature in which it's possible for a writer to explore the question of what this world would be like if you could get rid of [X], where [X] is filled in with any of the multitude of real world facts that constrain and oppress women. This remains the very best book ever written on the subject. Skimmed a fair amount of it, but I like it.
