The last castle paphos
Last Castle is as famous for its location as its delicious food, the last castle paphos. Perched atop the entrance to Avakas Gorge, if you want to dine in style there are few places better in Paphos. We visited there recently to sample the Souvla Pafos Buses today announced that the new bus stations at Kato Pafos and Tomb of the Kings were now open, and that the temporary Harbour station is closed.
Viklari - the Last Castle. Cypriots love grilled and barbequed meat and pork souvla is synonymous with outdoor summer cooking here in Cyprus. In the searing heat of July and August, you will be tempted by the mounthwatering aroma wafting from a barbecue, packed wth sizzling chunks of pork, chicken or sometimes lamb. The Last Castle serves the best souvla I have tasted anywhere on the island. You may think it's easy to cook pork by slapping a skewer packed with chunks of meat ono a BBQ, but believe me, if it's not done properly with the correct amount of coals, at the right height and for the right amount of time, you can end up with dry and burnt or conversely undercooked meat. At the Viklari, the menu is simple - BBQ pork or chicken served with a bowl of salad and giant potato wedges or baked potatoes for the health conscious. Simple yet oh so yummy - the meat really melts in your mouth and is moist and tender.

We booked our table for , and when we arrived the restaurant was nearly empty. It soon started filling up though, as the lunchtime crowd arrived. The "roof" of the main dining area consists of grape vines. At the moment they are ripe for harvest. If your a tourist you will love this, but to be honest, our house in Polemi is surrounded by vineyards and grapes are plentiful, so this was a bit of a busman's holiday for us. So, how did we find the food? My wife and daughter both liked the pork best, whereas I preferred the chicken. However, they were both delicious.
