A documentary crew arrives at the offices of Dunder Mifflin to observe the employees and learn about modern management. Manager Michael Scott tries to paint a happy picture, while sales rep Jim fights with his nemesis Dwight and flirts with receptionist Pam. A consultant arrives to teach the staff about tolerance and diversity but Michael insists on imparting his own knowledge. Meanwhile, Jim struggles to keep hold of a lucrative contract extension. Michael doesn't want to upset the staff so he gets Dwight to pass on news about the company's reduced health provisions.

David Brent is the manager of the Slough branch of the Wernham Hogg paper company and he and some of his staff are having a bit of a rough morning after over-imbibing the night before. She also tells him there are going to be redundancies. Word spreads through the office quickly but David assures everyone that their jobs are safe. David hires Donna, his lodger and the daughter of his best friend. While showing her round the office he discovers a doctored pornographic image of himself. Gareth, due to his covert operations skills, is told to catch the culprit. It is Tim's 30th birthday - he receives a card from Dawn and an unusual inflatable gift from Lee. More importantly, however, it's Quiz Night and there are reputations to be made or lost. To fend off the increasing staff disillusionment a Training Day has been scheduled.

A banker, who is a potential buyer of Dunder Mifflin, comes to the office and Michael tries to impress him by replacing Stanley and making Pam an international salesman. David, however, responds by foolishly daring Neil to try run the office without him, believing his loyal staff would be in uproar if David was suspended. Back in Scranton, the staffers are upset that they have to spend Saturday working on Dunder Mifflin Infinity, and Jim's attempt to rescue them doesn't go as planned.
