Hunter, formerly known as the Golden Guard , is a major character in The Owl House , initially depicted as an antagonist. He was the right-hand man of Emperor Belos and the former head of the Emperor's Coven. Hunter was presumed to be the nephew of Belos and, as such, was dedicated to his cause of ending all wild magic in the realm, but in reality, he is the latest version of the Golden Guard grimwalkers created by Belos to serve him faithfully in his mad quest. After his promotion to head of the Emperor's Coven , the Golden Guard acts as the main enforcer for Emperor Belos and antagonist to the residents of the Owl House. However, a chance encounter with Luz Noceda , and the meeting of a mysterious palisman named Flapjack who chooses Hunter as his partner, gives Hunter a new perspective and a glimpse of life outside the Emperor's Coven. This soon culminates with Hunter learning the truth of his origins. Upon this discovery, and realizing he can never return to his lifelong home, he abandons Belos and the Emperor's Coven and retreats to Hexside School of Magic and Demonics to evade the emperor's reach. There, he finds acquaintances in Hexside's students, and after coming to terms with his identity, Hunter makes it his goal to help them stand against Belos' plan to wipe out the Demon Realm. Unbeknownst to them, a remnant of Belos follows Hunter to the Human Realm and ends up possessing him, nearly killing his friends and Flapjack in the process. This gives Hunter the strength to finally stand up to his uncle, and he sacrifices himself in an attempt to defeat him once and for all. However, Hunter is saved when Flapjack sacrifices himself to revive him. Belos, weakened but not dead, returns to the Demon Realm, and Hunter and his friends follow closely behind, vowing to honor his fallen palisman.
Like with Flapjack, Hunter loves Waffle very much and is shown to be very close to her, the owl house hunter, with the two often remaining at each others' sides during Hunter's carving of palismen for others and when having fun with their friends.
This character is a Walking Spoiler. Therefore, all spoilers will be unmarked on this page. You Have Been Warned. I'm just following orders. All I know is that I'm a copy of someone Belos made You guys mean the world to me, and I
He is just going about certain things wrong. Yet accepting this change takes time, and is often a terrifying thing to comprehend. He spares a palisman whom he bonds with and learns that people can just be good. His heart at the end of the day is what people really attach themselves to, and Hunter has a really complex, layered, and nuanced identity that people really like about him. While Robinson is used to active fandoms thanks to roles in shows like My Hero Academia, Pokemon, and the upcoming Digimon reboot, the rampant enthusiasm behind The Owl House still took him by surprise. This was always the intention, with the show consistently leaning into its anime influences and desire to deliver a deeper narrative. More anime.

Hunter is so precious. He still wants to play the villain, trying in vain to act threatening to Luz and friends while furthering the agenda of Emperor Belos. Watching characters like Zuko, Catra , Lilith , and so many others in the stories we love begin as villains before slowly coming to terms with their own destiny and changing sides is a slice of poetic brilliance that never gets old. He had a singular goal, and would burn down entire villages to see it through. It seemed like the easier path, or a clouded one, so they all took it. Hunter is similar, but younger and still caught up in a corrupt system that he is irreparably attached to.

However, when Hunter convinces Amity to untie him due to Kikimora having found them, he turns on Amity, kicking her legs out from under her and leaving her to be captured by the Emperor's Coven while he runs off to get the Titan's Blood before anyone else can. To ensure Hunter did not rebel like the other Guards did, Emperor Belos presented himself as Hunter's uncle, claiming that he took him under his wing after wild magic wiped out their family, and that the Titan had big plans for him. Hunter tries to comfort Gus while he shuts down in a panic attack, upset that he allowed himself to be tricked. He immediately changed his tune and started helping Hunter after realising his mistake, but by then Hunter had been horribly abused for years. It's rather fitting that he would watch over Hunter, himself a clone and Replacement Goldfish of a man long dead plus Flapjack ends up making a Heroic Sacrifice to revive Hunter, who was otherwise as good as dead. He doesn't understand what's happening until Luz is long gone and the illusion dissipates, at which point Gus reveals Luz had him do it as part of her plan to protect Hunter from Belos and get to the Head in time to warn Eda that the emperor knows of the rebels' plot. To this end, he repeatedly cloned Caleb through the Grimwalkers and tried to condition them into following his plans to have a variant of his brother beside him, only for that to fail because he Copied the Morals, Too. After The Reveal that he's actually a Grimwalker and therefore a copy of someone Belos once knew, Hunter confesses he doesn't know if he's a witch or a human. Dell, likewise, is shown to be very proud and complimentary of Hunter, praising his apprentice in his successful carvings of new palisman. Even when his conscience starts to interfere with missions — like when he let the Emerald Entrails go after seeing how desperate they were to avoid joining the Emperor's Coven — he can't stop seeing Belos and the Emperor's Coven as complete paragons of everything good in the world. While Hunter does try , he is immediately captured by Eda and Amity, and spends the majority of the episode as their prisoner.

The mask of his Golden Guard uniform resembles a barn owl, he has a cape with a bird on the sigil, and Flapjack, his Palisman, is a red cardinal. Amity exploits this during their battle, giving her the opportunity to deck him in the face. Hunter describes his time as the Golden Guard as spending most of his training and studying with limited permissions and no time to socialize with others. Hunter is the closest he's ever come to creating a perfectly obedient Grimwalker, but falls through once again when Hunter is horrified by the atrocities Belos has committed. When he does use magic in a fight, it's mostly Super-Speed and short-range teleportation to allow him to break through his opponents' defenses with a physical strike. However, after Flapjack sacrifices himself to revive Hunter, the boy's eyes turn brown like his Palisman's. He finds the dog-like King "weirdly endearing", forms a very close bond with his bird Palisman Flapjack, and while staying in the Human Realm, develops a fascination with wolves. Seeing Amity has the portal key causes him to snap out of it. It's unknown if the one they originated from was a good person or would disprove of what he does, but comments from Belos suggests he's been trying to make a Grimwalker that won't turn on him again. Meaningful Name : He's frequently seen hunting things down for the emperor, with his debut having him on a mission to slay the selkidomus.
