Ray Hadley was born in [1] and raised in a "housing commission house in Dundas Valley" Sydney but later went to live with his grandparents on an Eungai Rail farm on the mid north coast of New South Wales. While working as a cab driver, he was offered casual work at the radio station 2UE after giving the then news director, Mark Collier, a ride in his taxi. Hadley's talkback show started in a traditional local community and state-based current affairs format but now includes federal politics. His favourite music genre is country both traditional and modern. Hadley's opening theme is "Murrumbidgee" by The Wolverines, while the closing theme is the instrumental " Last Date " from country pianist Floyd Cramer.

Ray had been a successful auctioneer in Sydney for a number of years but yearned for a life as a race broadcaster. In he decided to give up auctioneering and have a crack at chasing his dream. Unable to make a living out of race calling Ray decided to get a taxi licence so he could survive. By he was covering Rugby League and was calling races with Des Hoysted. He stayed there for 19 years before moving to 2GB. His first broadcast on 2GB was breakfast on December 24th He continued in that role until Alan Jones arrived in March of For a 12 year period Ray worked 7 days a week during the football season.
