Things you buy through our links may earn Vox Media a commission. There were fireballs, flashbacks and flash-forwards, and finally, the long-awaited semi-return of Rick and Michonne. Yet for all that was packed into this super-sized series finale, perhaps the one thing missing was the most important — satisfying closure. Anyway, leaving little R.

The Walking Dead has officially come to an end. As Daryl tries to seek aid for Judith, the group separates as walkers continue to invade The Commonwealth placing innocent civilians at risk. Did the series finale meet the expectations of devoted and passionate fans? The episode begins where it last left off, as Daryl desperately tries to seek help at the hospital for Judith. However, his cries do nothing as Commonwealth soldiers rough him up in their escape. Judith, barely conscious, scrambles to block the glass hospital doors as walkers emerge before passing out next to Daryl. Little do they know, the rest of the group is stuck fending off the walkers. In the process, Jules dies, and Luke gets bit. The rest of the group manages to make it to the hospital where Judith rests and Daryl refuses help from Carol. The heartbreaking scene causes Daryl to take action, beginning a blood transfusion for Judith. But the group hardly has time to rest as the hospital is breeched by walkers.
And as the episode ends, Judith and RJ stare out over the green valley. As Daryl tries to wake Judith up, Rosita calls in with the news that her group is in the alley behind the hospital, but they wrecked their ambulance going through the herd which is now surrounded by walkers. Geo John Kubjack.

The Walking Dead series finale makes for a decent enough episode, combining thrilling action sequences that are reminiscent of earlier moments in the show. But it struggles to juggle its overwhelmingly large cast, leans a little too heavily into melodrama, and teases spin-offs rather than concentrates on its conclusion. The Walking Dead has finally concluded after 12 years — and the long-running zombie drama's last-ever episode highlights both the best and the worst aspects of the show in recent seasons. The Walking Dead series finale is almost split into two halves; the first section offering up 35 minutes of pulse-pounding action, while the second goes hard on the nostalgia and sentimentality, and the results are a seriously mixed bag. Walkers swarm the outside as Daryl collapses, forcing Judith to try and barricade the doors before she also blacks out. Fortunately, the others rock up to the clinic and get them to safety — their off-screen presence feels a bit like a cop-out, admittedly — and Daryl awakens to Yumiko, Magna, Connie, and Kelly soothing a bitten Luke Dan Fogler as he bleeds out on a gurney. The harsh truth is that it's difficult to care about Luke — he's been absent for too long, having never really made an impression to begin with — and his death just uses up valuable screen time.

Don't even think about sharing this article. This is it. After 11 seasons, The Walking Dead has come to an end. So while the TWD universe is not dead, the ending is bittersweet. The main takeaway from this episode is that it acted as a fitting wrap-up for everything that happened during Season 11 and the entire series. The rest of the group seemed to be gathering momentum as stragglers rejoined one by one. Unfortunately for Luke and Jules — the couple who recently returned last episode — their time was up. Luke lived a bit longer in a touching tribute harmonica and all , but Jules was brought down by the horde and promptly eaten. Rest in Peace.
