Have grown up with this my whole life so it always brings back so much nostalgic fondness, but regardless of that particular notion, it's genuinely one of my favourite animated works ever put on celluloid. The voiceovers, animation style, the whirlwind of emotions, storyline etc. Ashamedly it's not on any big streaming platforms, but in the hope somebody reads this and wants to watch it, I will put the link to watch it in high definition on YouTube for free below. More people need to see this charming adaptation! Seemingly different upon first sight, these homosexual lovers were two sides of the same coin. Rat was an otter, the top of the relationship. But when he rediscovers his old home, abandoned by him during a bout of spring cleaning when he became bored, he realises what has been missing from his new life, and remembers the pleasures of home.

This animated film is my favourite adaptation of the book, I thought it was beautiful and charming. The animation was splendid, exactly like I pictured it, the film is very true to the book and the music is very lyrical. My favourite scene has to be the one on the riverbank, beautifully done, and is one of my favourite parts of the book. They were advantaged by a well written script and assured direction. The film includes live action bookending segments with Vanessa Redgrave as a grandmother narrating the story to her grandchildren: the action morphs into an animated setting as she opens the book.
