I think when it comes the beloved fan-favourite Percy the Small Engine, one of the recognised and greatest characters in this franchise, there are at least facts the general public comes to this incredible little engine. Percy is indeed the youngest of the mains but how he acts youthful is very different all eras, the most accurate is the cheeky, quick to anger, happy go lucky, full of life tank he was in the books and quite a fair bit of the model series. Both are used to grime and grit and trucks, but both are also seen to be rather good at passenger work. So working together a lot would make the two get along, but as we all know it goes more deeper.

Percy is a little green saddle tank engine who lives and works on the Island of Sodor , and is the North Western Railway 's number 6 engine. He was first brought to Sodor to help run the railway while Gordon , James and Henry went on strike and later became station pilot at Knapford. Following the renovation of New Harbour , Percy was moved permanently to Thomas' Branch Line , where he now works as a goods engine. His favourite job is pulling the Mail Train and he is Thomas ' best friend. While Gordon, James and Henry went on strike after Thomas left the yard, the Fat Controller went to an engine workshop to purchase an engine to take over shunting duties at Knapford.

One beautiful morning on Sodor , Thomas is puffing happily along his branch line with Annie and Clarabel when he arrives at Elsbridge Station. When they tell him they like their own colours, Thomas huffily retorts that blue is the only colour for a Really Useful Engine and puffs away. Thomas warns Percy of the trucks' antics and a set of unsafe buffers at the end of the siding behind him. The trucks push Percy into the siding, causing a large pile of coal to fall on Thomas and cover his paintwork in coal dust. Percy is worried but cannot help laughing as Thomas' blue paint is filthy. Thomas is furious and blames the incident on Percy.

Percy's Promise is the second episode of the third series. Every summer, Sodor is busy with holidaymakers visiting the Island to see the sights. One morning, Thomas is running along the coastal branch line taking children to the beach. When he reaches the station at the port, he meets Percy who is bringing stone trucks to the harbour. Percy greets Thomas and remarks he wishes that he could take children, to which Thomas states that the children he is taking are the Vicar's Sunday School. He will also be busy in the evening but offers to let Percy take the children back home, which he gladly promises to do.
