Obito grew up not knowing who his parents were; in the anime, he was left in the care of his grandmother. He also became a close friend of Rin Nohara , whom he eventually fell in love with. After finally graduating some years later, Obito, Rin, and Kakashi were placed on a team under the leadership of Minato Namikaze. In the anime, as a final qualifying test, Minato gave the team a bell test to test their cooperation skills. Obito could not accomplish this on his own, but by joining forces with Rin and Kakashi, they succeeded in taking the bells, teaching Obito the value of teamwork. During the Third Shinobi World War , Kakashi was placed in charge of the team for a mission to destroy the Kannabi Bridge , which would hinder Iwagakure from using Kusagakure as a relief point. Minato was soon called to the front lines, leaving the team to complete the mission alone under Kakashi's command.

The Akatsuki was a criminal organization and the biggest antagonistic group in the Naruto series. Led by different people with different goals throughout the series, the Akatsuki has had many members join its ranks. Nagato's Akatsuki, in particular, is known to be the most popular one and also the one that saw most of the action in the story. Towards the beginning of the second part of Naruto , they aimed to collect all Tailed Beasts and managed to gain seven out of the nine, with the Fourth Great Ninja War being triggered for the last two. Nagato and Konan were two of the most important members of the Akatsuki and they were one of the very first members of the group. When Yahiko created the organization, he did so with them and after his death, Nagato took over. They were in charge of the group right until the Pain's Assault arc where Nagato Uzumaki died. Konan was sought out by Obito and killed because he wanted Nagato's Rinnegan. Itachi Uchiha was one of the most powerful Akatsuki members and one of the very few who came from Konohagakure. He was forced to join this organization as he killed his entire clan for the sake of peace and then fled the village.
