Topper worlds 2023
The last few months have not been easy for us. Difficulties with the energy house project, repairs on the ship and especially our housing situation cost a lot of energy. But there were also beautiful moments.
Organisation commenced back in November and the Royal Cork Yacht Club Topper Worlds Committee has been hard at work since then, meeting regularly drawing on the fantastic expertise of our staff and volunteers to make this a landmark event in the calendar. Young sailors and their families from all over the world will be congregating in Crosshaven in droves, entries are huge at nearly with only 40 places remaining. When the opening parade commences on the Sunday the flags of many nations will be proudly displayed as the entrants make their way to Crosshaven house to be officially welcomed to Cork. Royal Cork is proud to be associated with ITCA and this vibrant sailing class that takes children from all backgrounds and cultures and provides them with competition, camaraderie, fun and inclusivity, as they start their lives in this fantastic sport. Situated in the environment of our beautiful Cork Harbour and following national and regional events to seed the fleet. The races will be run over the course of the five days, with multiple fleets, and many staggered starts, our expert International Race Team will take charge to ensure fair and equitable racing.

This was a record turnout for this popular Winter Regatta, started 12 years ago. Although a little chilly at times, there was sun, blue sky and lovely knot winds - pretty much perfect conditions. Originally scheduled for January, the floods beat us twice, so to finally get on the water at one of our new training venues felt like a real triumph! Sailors from all over the world converged on the Royal Cork Yacht Club for a full week of championship racing at the Topper Worlds , held July The hard work and dedication of the Royal Cork Topper Worlds committee resulted in a week that will not be forgotten any time soon. The competitors over two courses on Curlane Bank and Cuskinny experienced challenging racing as the weather continued to disrupt the event. Race teams led by IRO Con Murphy watched over two days of qualifying followed by three days of championship racing. On the final day, Alex Jones was crowned the Topper 5. The forecast was for a southwest breeze, building to a lively 22 knots by mid-afternoon, launching the Toppers early with an hours start. Jones opened the scoring with a third, behind both Su and Rory Clow, but suffered a blip in form on the eighth race, resulting in a 9th place and his worst result of the Finals series.
