Forms like Ultra Instinct and even Super Saiyan God remain staples in the franchise, but the ill-fated debut of Super Saiyan 3 has always stirred controversy. The long-haired look gave a power boost to Goku and even Gotenks when prodded, but Vegeta was never able to unlock the form for himself in the anime. Until now, that is. Earlier today, the most recent episode of Super Dragon Ball Heroes went live, and it was there fans checked in on Vegeta. The hero and his Xeno counterpart have been locked in a battle to save Universe 7 for a solid bit at this point. Things only escalated when one Vegeta had to fight a mysterious doctor on the battlefield, and their strength prompted Saiyan to tap into Super Saiyan 3. His brow is made more prominent despite his eyebrows roofing out of existence. Therefore, Vegeta must have made a conscious decision to avoid it. Super Saiyan 3 has flaws that Vegeta surely knew about , either from observing Goku or by trying it out for himself offscreen. Vegeta had similar concerns about the Ultra Super Saiyan form, which he expressed to Future Trunks during the Cell saga. For this reason, it makes sense that, prior to the Golden Frieza Saga, Vegeta believed that he was better off using Super Saiyan 2 as his primary form. A third factor that may have motivated Vegeta to not use Super Saiyan 3 was his rivalry with Goku.
