Vesa mount bolts

The paperwork with the TV states that M8 screws are required, but not what length. I have tried 50mm and 30mm, both of which seem too long, as the screws stick out of the back of the TV by a couple of vesa mount bolts. Indeed, the screw holes on the back of the TV only seem to be about 1cm deep, but from what I'm reading the screws should be at least 30mm in length, vesa mount bolts.

If anybody else wants to tinker some things together or want to abuse existing stands with Vesa mount, please feel free to post here your work with pics.
