Waddle doo

Waddle Doos are common enemies in the Kirby series.

Waddle Doos debuted as enemies in Kirby's Dream Land and made several appearances in later games. They attack with an energy whip, exactly like the one they use in Smash , and give Kirby the Beam ability when swallowed. A Waddle Doo is the second most common enemy thrown when Waddle Dee Toss is used, with the most common being a Waddle Dee and the rarest being a Gordo. When the Waddle Doo's body hits a target, it will deal slash damage. The beam's hitbox belongs to King Dedede. After it has used its beam attack three times, it will disappear. When a Waddle Doo appears during the Waddle Dee Army , it falls and then runs across the stage in one direction, dealing electric damage like its beam attack to any opponent in its path for decent damage and knockback.

Despite having no mouth, Captain Waddle Doo has the ability to speak and serves as the captain of the guard for Castle Dedede. He commands the Waddle Dees in the castle and is able to call upon them at any time. Despite this, Captain Waddle Doo is not directly related to the Waddle Dees, and does not know how many are in the castle. He has a short sword strapped to his waist at all times, though he seldom uses it. In the Japanese version of the anime, his voice is high-pitched, while in the English version, his voice is quite deep, with a stereotypical Brooklyn accent. Captain Waddle Doo looks very similar to the in-game members of his species, with an orange body, one large eye, and two strands of hair above his eye. Because no other Waddle Doos are seen in the anime, it is unknown if they all are like that in the anime or that color scheme is exclusive to Captain Waddle Doo. Captain Waddle Doo is very curt and studious, particularly when it comes to commanding the Waddle Dees and taking orders from King Dedede and Escargoon. Regardless of the nature of the orders he receives, he does not carry the same level of hatred toward Kirby and the people of Cappy Town as his masters do, and is willing to help them with whatever they need so long as it does not conflict with his orders. In Tourist Trap , he is even seen helping Kirby defeat a monster by instructing the tourists to throw their ice at him so he can gain the Ice Copy Ability. The only conditions under which Captain Waddle Doo may refuse an order from the king is if said order would lead directly to the Waddle Dees' harm. His main job is to speak on behalf of the Waddle Dees, as well as direct them to fulfill King Dedede's orders and needs. Often times, he is antagonistic towards Kirby and his friends, but only as a result of King Dedede's orders.

He presents Kirby with waddle doo battles in his current league, and informs Kirby when he has enough League Points to enter the qualifier rounds. Additionally, Waddle Doo appears on three Character Treats ; one depicting his artwork from Kirby's Dream Landanother depicting his sprite from Kirby's Adventurewaddle doo, and the third depicting him as part of the Friend Circle treat.

They are cycloptic creatures related to Waddle Dee , the main difference being that Waddle Doo are able to attack nearby opponents with an electrified beam fired from their eye. Waddle Doo are deeply protective of their Waddle Dee brethren. They are among the most common enemies in the Kirby franchise. In the games Waddle Doos unleash a string of beams that, if they touch Kirby , will electrocute him. If Kirby inhales a Waddle Doo, he will gain the beam copy ability. The Waddle Doo have also appeared in the Kirby anime where they have been seen wielding swords.

Waddle Doo is an iconic round creature and distant relative of Waddle Dee , sharing many of that creature's characteristics, save for the single large eye in place of a face and the ability to fire beams from it. He is most commonly encountered in the Kirby series as an enemy , but he can be recruited as a helper in appropriate games and in some instances is playable aside from that. Waddle Doo attacks primarily by firing his aforementioned eye beam, but will otherwise harm Kirby by collision or by trying to body-slam him, as seen in Kirby The Crystal Shards.
