If there's one thing Warhammer 40, has never been short on, it's fearsome Space Marine chapters. Elite-level, transhumanist super warriors in service to the Emperor and charged with protecting the Imperium of Man, the Space Marines are no strangers to dealing with the forces of Chaos. The Emperor's finest weapon in the defense of humanity throughout the spaceways, the inhumanly strong and scarily skilled Space Marines are simply a cut above everyone else when it comes to warfare. While the near-endless number of chapters offer a diverse array of particular skills, traits, and ideals, none of them are any less than deadly in carrying out their crusades. Not only must the space marines save humanity from extra-terrestrial threats, it often falls to them to essentially save humanity from itself, stepping in to deal with the follies of mankind that genetic experimentation has separated them from. Of the many menacing chapters out there , a select few stand out as what are likely the best Space Marine chapters in Warhammer 40, Updated October 14, by Jacob Kay: I f the grim darkness of the far future did not already look bleak, then Warhammer 40, has made sure of it with recent events in its lore.

According to the data from Games Workshop, these are the best top winning and worst Warhammer 40k armies in the meta up to January ! However, the game has a lot of rules and mechanics, so not every army will always stay balanced. Drukhari have won a number of events since the Balance Dataslate was released, which is great to see players doing well with the brand new Skysplinter Assault Detachment we created for them, Josh told Warhammer Community. Especially considering before the update Drukhari were trending as one of the lowest win rates. Despite the nerfs, World Eaters are still performing well. Drukhari, on the other hand, seems to have benefited the most from the Dataslate, as they have gained a brand new detachment, a significant reduction in points, and many other buffs. Considering this is only two weekends of events data it is fantastic to see such a diversity in the factions winning. Having so many armies win tournaments is a great sign for the game. Even though some of the armies above already got balance NERFS, they might still get another round if they keep winning. However, some armies that got buffs are also winning now, but there are still some armies like Ad Mech and Space Marines who seem to be stagnant in the meta.
Honestly, weakest space marine chapter, i'd actually agree with you. Despite a glowing reputation as brave defenders of the Imperium, there was a time when the Dark Angels almost crossed the line into complete heresy. Honestly nearly all of the Cursed Founding chapters could be on this list as well if we hold some of them up with the same defects they had when they first came out, like the Cursed Knights and Abominations.
Excellent post and great research skills! My favourite was the Celestial Lions, who were noble and questioned the Inquisition's methods on Armageddon and were mysteriously stitched up into virtual oblivion Thank you, i'm glad you enjoyed reading it. Honestly, the Celestial Lions were on the short list, and it's unfortunately only due to Aaron Dembski Bowden's writing that they were withdrawn. Not that the short story was bad, or the story itself exempted them, but the conclusion left them with only one path ahead.
It does not include the nine Traitor Legions. This cannot be considered a complete list as not every Chapter in existence in the Imperium of Man is known. Timothy Linward. Published: Sep 7, This guide covers the most important chapters — those that bear the names of the lost legions, and their most famous successors. It introduces their character and history, as well as pointing you towards our full-fat guides to each chapter. We have a separate guide to Space Marines that explains what they are, and how they play on the tabletop. The Emperor of Mankind created 20 vast legions of transhuman marines — the Legiones Astartes — using a combination of his own genius, and the work of many genetic scientists chief among them Amar Astarte, after whom the resulting warriors were named.

Mr Mystery wrote: Suffice to say, if any of this is actually true, then clearly Elvis is hiding behind my left testicle, and Lord Lucan behind the right. If you think flesh is for the weak and favour the confidence of Iron, or fancy shooting first with little concern for the outcome, then the Iron Hands are for you. Ultramarines for their sheer boredom. Being a successor chapter to the ever-popular and iconic Ultramarines , the Void Tridents have quite the legacy to live up to and, if their actions to date are anything to go by, they are indeed doing so. M41 and made up entirely of Primaris Space Marines, any renegade or Xenos faction would do well to avoid engaging with the sailors of the void. The Primarch of the Raven Guard was Corax, a name which is actually a play on the Latin binomial species name for raven, corvus corax. The icon of the Adeptus Astartes.
Despite holding a similar cause, the Salamanders opt for a more brazen approach - with huge Flamers and Melta Guns to scorch their opponents into the dirt. Formed by none other than the Emperor as a First Founding chapter, the Imperial Fists have more than lived up to their name, often serving as key praetorians. My favourite was the Celestial Lions, who were noble and questioned the Inquisition's methods on Armageddon and were mysteriously stitched up into virtual oblivion Generally playing fast and loose with the battle doctrines of the Codex Astartes, the Salamanders are unique due to their avoidance of civilian casualties during engagements, believing that the protection of the Emperor's subjects is paramount to their duty. Despite this strange altruism, the Salamanders are still a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, burning and melting through their foes with extreme prejudice. The weakest When he does, enemies of Mankind best beware. Like a much older successor chapter of the Imperial Fists, the Sons of the Phoenix take their devotion to the Emperor and dial it up to fanatical levels. And given they hold an entire realm in the form of Ultramar, faced an entire Hive Fleet and were victorious, still possess some of the most stable gene-seed, and contribute extensively outside of their Chapter in the form of the Honor Company, Deathwatch, and Tyrannic War Veterans, I'd argue the Ultramarines are the most powerful Chapter in the Imperium. The Greatest Race.
