The Castle grounds are open all year round. There is free admission to Castle ruins although, at times, some event entry prices may apply. While today Whittington stands very much on the English side of the Welsh border, during the Middle Ages it was situated within the Welsh March — a loosely defined area that ran along the border between England and Wales, and into South Wales.
