They certainly aren't representative of the performance of average raiders I think it would be very cool to actually see the "average raiders in average raids" performance as it concerns most players. You can go to warcraftlogs and create your own report. That's all this author did. Change the percentile to 50th instead of 95th and there you have it. Average players doing average things. There are lots of us lol. I think I definitely prefer this style of rankings over the "Tier" rankings. This was a great read.
