Few games can get as intense as an ironman run of XCOM. This turn-based strategy game is all about fighting aliens with personalized soldiers in strategic combat. Unique classes exist that grant unique abilities to even the odds. Nearly every class in the game offers a unique playstyle that makes certain situations less punishing or even favorable. From hacking giant mechs to blowing up entire buildings, here are all of the classes in XCOM 2 ranked from worst to best. Updated March 8th, by Gene Cole: While this list originally gave a very detailed list of the best and worst classes for higher-level players, many new players might find that the best strategies are too complicated and difficult to use. Soldiers come from many walks of life: bodyguards, prisoners, and resistance members are all part of XCOM's pool of hirees. Regardless of their background, they are united in their desire to take back their planet from the alien menace. While they start as unskilled "Rookies", they can gain special abilities through combat experience and promotion and eventually become a force to be reckoned with - if they survive. Soldiers are the ground-level troops of XCOM, sabotaging ADVENT activities in guerilla raids, protecting civilians from retaliation, and acquiring intelligence regarding the alien threat. They are usually deployed in squads of soldiers, often covertly, through the Skyranger , a VTOL troop transport. On every Turn , soldiers can be commanded to take Actions to move across the field and interact with map objectives, hostile aliens, or their fellow soldiers. However, this sight radius is lost if an operative is incapacitated, or is mind controled by hostile forces. However, soldiers are not immortal souls. Soldiers who are hit by enemy fire can be wounded. Soldiers hit too many times can also become Unconscious or killed. This is generally not a good thing to have happen to your squad but is also unfortunately an extremely common occurrence.

With nine classes to choose from, XCOM 2 is packed with replayability. It's got multiple ways to complete battles yet still holds the tactical element many loved from the first game. However, these tactics require an element of skill and knowledge regarding the class that gets chosen. After all, not all were created equally and each one brings its own strengths and weaknesses to this turn-based game. It's worth noting that preference for a specific class will be opinion based so it's recommended the player tries each class and explores where they thrive. That being said, there are undeniably some classes that just don't quite hold up when compared to their counterparts. As one of the DLC additions, many would expect these mechanical soldiers to be powerful and deadly.

Published: Mar 10, We all see the same thing when picturing a goblin: green-skinned, small, ugly, making funny noises, and ripe for adventurers to cut a swathe through their local populous. When the goblins narrowly escape death at the hands of some adventurers and find the titular Goblin Stone , they set out on a turn-based strategy game adventure fraught with monsters, men, and plenty of RPG mechanics to boot. Both you and your opponents attack in a line, with the person at the front moving back a certain amount of space depending on the cost of their move. Offensive, defensive, and ability-based moves all work in tandem to help you control the pace of the fight. To keep the game analogy going, imagine if, instead of just thinking ahead in chess, your moves could also dictate which pieces your opponents could move and where.
