Each mentor offers 4 training missions that reward the player with unique skills upon completion. These missions are available regardless of whether or not the mentor is the player's current instructor. A player can choose a specific instructor to be their mentor by speaking to them and choosing "Be my instructor". After doing so, the mentor will act as a training partner during Challenge Quests, make commentary on the Results screen, and occasionally appear in Parallel Quests to aid the player if their health gets low. Mentors also play a significant role in the Extra Story mode from the Extra Pack 2 DLC , with quests and cutscenes differing depending on which mentor the player currently has instructing them. A player can build their relationship with their mentor to unlock new conversations, as well as receive gifts, nicknames, and marks.
