Heart Containers are recurring items in The Legend of Zelda series. They increase Link 's maximum number of hearts by one, also refilling his hearts to full if he has lost any. They are most commonly found after defeating a dungeon's boss, but can also be found scattered around the landscape, usually in hidden locations. Occasionally, they can be obtained by completing difficult side quests. Pieces of Heart can be found by completing side quests, getting good scores in mini-games, or searching various dungeons and overworld areas. In The Legend of Zelda , Link's maximum health can reach 16 hearts. Link begins with three and earns a Heart Container with every dungeon boss defeated. There are eight dungeon bosses giving Link a maximum of eleven hearts. The remaining five can be found across the land of Hyrule in caves. Unlike in later games, picking up a Heart Container does not refill Link's hearts to full, although at the end of a dungeon, picking up a Triforce fragment does.

Similarly, your stamina bar is the green circle that will run out when you do activities like running, climbing, or swimming. The easiest way to start increasing your heart containers is by completing Shrines that are scattered throughout Hyrule and the Sky Islands. Once you find a Shrine, enter it and complete the challenge within. These challenges range from puzzles to tough enemy fights. Once you have four Light of Blessing from completing Shrines, you can exchange them at various Goddess statues that are located across Tears of the Kingdom. One other way to increase the number of Heart Containers you have is to defeat the main bosses. You can also expand your heart meter temporarily by consuming a Hearty Meal.

Heart Containers , also known as Container Hearts , are recurring items in the Legend of Zelda series. These heart-shaped containers are visual representations of Link 's current health. The more Heart Containers Link collects, the more health he will have. The number of Heart Containers Link has reflects the maximum amount of health he can have at one time, traditionally displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. When Link's health is full, the Heart Containers are red. As Link loses health, they lose their color or disappear. In some games, Link can lose quarter hearts or half hearts. Link usually starts his adventure with three Heart Containers; the limit for how many Heart Containers Link can obtain in all depends on the game, though the most common maximum is twenty. Heart Containers are typically left behind by bosses upon defeat. Link can also "create" Heart Containers by collecting Pieces of Heart ; the most common number of Pieces of Heart needed to complete another Heart Container is four, however, exceptions exist.

They increase Link 's Life Gauge , which is represented by a set of Hearts, excluding The Adventure of Link , where his health is symbolized by a life bar. As Link progresses through the games, he will require more and more health in order to survive the greater challenges. This additional health is acquired in the form of Heart Containers, [11] with each Heart Container adding one whole heart to the amount of hearts Link has, in addition to fully recovering his Life Gauge. The maximum number of Heart Containers is typically 20 or 16; see below. A single Heart Container can be found on Hyrule's eastern coast, requiring the Stepladder to collect. The remaining 4 Heart Containers are offered as gifts in caves, in locations that vary between the First and Second Quest.
