Aurora 4x game

Aurora is a freeware 4X space game for Windows designed by Steve Walmsley and released in It is constantly being updated and the latest version is V7. A new version re-written in C and containing most of the intended V7. And long awaited C version 2. Originally just a simple program to augment pen and paper space battles primarily Starfire , it has since evolved to something more, with the game being playable with the addition of AI, and many other features. Aurora allows the player to create a procedurally generated galaxy, consisting of detailed, accurately scaled star systems connected to each other via warp points. A player starts off as a space faring nation, discovering the secrets of Trans-Newtonian technology and uses it to expand and create an interstellar empire. Aurora is a sandbox game, with no goals, but nearly every setting can be edited in a designer mode for creating custom scenarios. The game is played in increments, where time is advanced from between 5 seconds to 30 days as chosen by the player. So it is a mix between real-time and turn based gameplay. The game takes great attention to detail, with vast star systems many billions of kilometers wide across along with orbiting planets, moons, asteroids and secondary stars.

So tabling this until then and I'll probably start standard instead of conventional. Users active in past 15 minutes: DrollVivalasKaiser.

Welcome to the Aurora Wiki. This is a collection of user-submitted guides, information and advice for "Aurora". The wiki and its 1, pages are managed and maintained by contributors from the Aurora community. Please note that because the game is constantly being refined and expanded, some of the information in this wiki might be outdated. The most up to date information can be found in the Aurora forums.

When first opened, this will display details for 'The Space Race', the developer's saved game. To create a new game, you will need to click on the New button to the bottom left of this window. The Create New Game window displayed may be intimidating with its plethora of options, however for the moment we are going to leave most of them alone. First, you will want to give your game a name using the box in the top left. This is used when selecting which saved game you want to play on the main screen. You may also want to change the name of your Empire using the 'Empire Title' text box and maybe change the 'Main Empire Theme' selection and 'Commander Theme' selection. These options are just cosmetic, and control the automatic names that your empire will use for newly discovered star systems, ship designs and newly trained commanders. You can manually rename these items to whatever you choose, or change the themes later in the game if you wish. On the far right of the screen there are a couple of things to change. Under Commanders the second check box is for commander political bonuses.

When you start Aurora, the first thing you should see is a small window with Game Details in the title bar. To start a New game , press the New button at the Game Details window. This will open a much larger window, titled "Create New Game", with an editable list of various parameters for the new universe generation process. This may seem a little overwhelming at first but most of the standard options are already selected by default, and a detailed reference with advice is provided below. Empire Title , Species Name and Homeworld Name are just text entry fields so you can be as imaginative as you like, or just leave the standard 'Terran Federation', 'Human' and 'Earth' entries. The final part of this section is an option between a Trans-Newtonian Empire and a Conventional Empire. Stick with Trans-Newtonian for now, which is a standard Aurora Empire. A Conventional Empire starts with no space-age tech and you have to pretty much start from scratch, converting your conventional industry and researching all of the normal basic starting tech.

Aurora 4x is a complicated game that takes place in a universe where the discovery of Trans-Newtonian elements has repealed many of the laws of Physics. Two of those laws have kept us almost planet-bound for far too long!
