Elm St. The deadline for proposals to buy the 30,square-foot building is Jan. Carpenter told the person City Council Finance Committee that the Registry of Deeds building, formerly the home of the Brockton District Court, is now a lost cause and is not worth buying. Carpenter said the county actually approached the city of Brockton two years ago trying to sell the property. But at that point, the city did a survey and commercial appraisal of the building, which was constructed in Carpenter said the fatal flaw for the longevity of the building has been that Salisbury Brook runs beneath the property. After doing some due diligence, it really didn't interest us and we didn't pursue it any further, based on the information we had gathered. Plymouth County will be looking for another location in Brockton for the Registry of Deeds, according to John Buckley, the elected register of deeds from Brockton. Several Brockton City Council members, including City Council President Robert Sullivan, said they were interested in the possibility of obtaining the West Elm Street property to turn it into a parking lot.
