Membership is in full swing for this years CSA program and we have welcomed a bunch of new members already. After taking a year off last year we have made some adjustments that should make for an even better experience for our members. Our CSA has grown each year and we will have around shares available in for families in the central Michigan area. Based on previous years, we usually start weekly share pick-ups late in early or mid June. I will have a pretty accurate date by may when the first crops blossom. I go through the membership and call everyone a week or so before we start to confirm contact details and pick up location details. Our CSA program is designed for 16 weeks and runs into or thru October.

Here are some of the responses we received this from our CSA members from that part of the survey: we had a wet spring and mud problem at our Clare farm stand which is the pick up location for Clare members. The farmhouse, barn, gardens, and animal pens are reminders of a bygone era when the land supplied the family with groceries and income; a time when every family member helped with chores. Various vegetable gardens and flower beds dedicated to heirloom varieties are planted behind the farmhouse. The wraparound porch has rocking chairs that allow visitors to reminisce and relax. The windmill, an important feature on the farm, supplied water and powered other machinery. Restored to its original glory, this windmill is from the family farm where Lena Rader Meijer grew up. The vegetable gardens and flower beds are dedicated to heirloom varieties—open pollinated types used for more than 50 years. It features white pine walls, ponderosa pine flooring, and a cedar shake roof. Please note: The Curiosity Courtyard will be closed for maintenance between January 29 and February 7.
