How could adding calibration frames quadruple the stacking time? Any ideas or suggestions or tips to speed up the process?? Try reducing the star detection threshold , to say 25, and run the lights again to compare with the previous time taken. Yep, Star Detection can increase the total time by a lot. Which can give about 60 stars depending on the object.

Version 4. I stumbled upon this last night after not imaging for a couple weeks due to weather. So far, so good. The look and feel are basically the same with only slight visual tweaks. One of the standing problems with Deep Sky Stacker has been the lack of a 64bit version. Having only a bit option for DSS only allowed for the use of a maxiumum of 4GB of RAM — in reality it was much less due to other system limitations. Even an attempt to start stacking an image with the Drizzle option selected would result in an out of memory error! The new version is 4. Be sure you are using a bit PC and operating system prior to trying to jump to the bit version. Some of us Astrophotographers are still using older laptops due to driver compatibility for our equipment, limiting our experience.

Deep SkyStacker is an excellent, and free, software program written by Luc Coiffier that will align, calibrate, and combine, or "stack", a series of individual deep-sky exposures.
