As a poor person, I saved up a while to afford a steam deck when my old laptop broke instead of going for a new laptop, as it is way more powerful than any laptop I could ever afford. I mainly just use it in a dock as a faux pc. First off, it defaults to controller, kind of annoying but whatever, I can just change it. I've tried everything I could find, typing -nocontroller into the advanced steam options, disabling every button in the steam controller layout thing, searching forums to try and find an answer. The input just simply refuses to stay as the option I picked, and constantly reverts back. That's why i have my Xbox Controller unplugged most of the time. It's just a DST issue. To anyone reading this in the future, I found a way to disable it, and the steam decks built in controller in general cause I had minor issues in other games, like project zomboid, or games where it defaulted to the steam deck. Auto-Disable-Steam-Controller ], then used the command lsusb to add my keyboard and mouse to the list of things that disables the steam decks controller and it works perfectly now. It also isn't exclusive to desktop mode, it works in game mode as well. Got this working too. I got this working by adding my usb headset to the list.

The only thing that gets it to work properly in those screens is having steam input turned on using the SCS profile for it. Otherwise, with steam input turned off, every time I try to interact with the map, it scrolls to the top left, and the job listings continuously roll back to the first page. Now I really only use my gamepad for interacting with the menus as I also have a wheel g and a pair of button boxes to handle all my other stuff while driving.

I don't think there's a good general purpose defense against this unless you install your own kb hook when activating the Steam overlay and remove it when deactivating. If you want to force it off in a specific game you can in the per-game settings. After hours of trial and error, I got them all set up and apparently working. Manually adding more Devices. I fixed the issue of keyboard input leaking through to the game by bypassing the keyboard hook when the overlay is active. It's ironic that Steam Input itself has become one of said problems.
