With the help of an Aborigine called Timelong the route was found by following an ancient Aboriginal track. This road is said to have become the main highway between the Southern Highlands and the south coast and was used to transport commuters and freight. Let your imagination run free on this walk as you begin to visualise the hustle and bustle that this now tranquil trail once played host. There are rock engravings displaying dates along with scars in the cutting walls that were probably made by the axles of horse-drawn carts and wagons. This is a walk that could be done several times and you would still find something new and interesting each time if you let it appeal to your sense of adventure. Gales Flat is a large clearing with a magnificent backdrop of the surrounding escarpment.

Head out on this Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 6 h 57 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, hiking, and running, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail. Be ready for hills. Almost immediately the path begins to slope down and continues to do so until the stream at the bottom. Walk through some impressive boulders which provide shade and a good place to sit for water. The climb up to the car park isn't for the faint-hearted, very steep and can feel relentless but worth it! This trail is not for the faint hearted. Very challenging with ascent and descent. Be mindful of the temperature as well. Not to be done on 30 plus degree day. Track is good condition. Farm's campsite is good for tents and toilet is doing what it should.

Access to the campground is walk-in only along Griffins walking track, which has parking at the top and bottom trailheads. There are 3 parking spaces at Jacks Corner and there is informal parking at Meryla Pass. Please do not block management gates when you park your car.
