Hey gamers!
Call of Duty games are prone to hackers who exploit the system to get all kinds of advantages. Sometimes, though, cheaters still get away. Exploiting and hacking allows bad actors to circumvent safeguards. Team Ricochet is aware of this and has an answer for those who might slip through the cracks and make it safely into the warzone, parachute intact. This new mitigation, splat, will join the list of other anti-cheat measures Team Ricochet has developed, like invisible enemies called hallucinations , removing guns with disarm , and more. All of them will continue to exist in Warzone and slowly make their way to Modern Warfare III where it applies, the group said. The team clarified, however, that no mitigation activates without verification of cheating.

For the last two decades, the Call of Duty series has been one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. From humble beginnings with Call of Duty on PC to the mammoth that is the free-to-play battle royale Warzone of today. However, in recent days thanks to a multiplayer matchmaking update on Xbox , old-school Call of Duty games have garnered a massive spike in player numbers with fans returning in droves to relive the classic Black Ops and Modern Warfare entries. So surely, this should be a joyous occasion for fans of the franchise wanting a dose of nostalgic first-person action, right? When Call of Duty: World at War was released in , it became one of my favourite games in the series. Being a fan of CoD multiplayer, I was also eager to put my apparent skills against other players online. I was instantly put off when I was being killed by players not on the map as they should be, but from underneath it. I was never to return to World at War competitive multiplayer again, and I am sure that I wasn't alone either.

Hackers are infecting players of an old Call of Duty game with a worm that spreads automatically in online lobbies, according to two analyses of the malware. The malware mentioned in the thread appears to be on the malware online repository VirusTotal. Another player claimed to have analyzed the malware and wrote in the same forum thread that the malware appears to be a worm, based on a series of text strings inside the malware. A game industry insider, who asked to remain anonymous because they were not allowed to speak to the press, confirmed that the malware contains those strings, indicating a worm. Activision spokesperson Neil Wood referred to a tweet posted by the company on an official Call of Duty updates Twitter account, which vaguely acknowledges the malware.
Devices like XIM, Cronus Zen, and ReaSnow S1 have been widely used in Call of Duty to allow mouse and keyboard users to get the benefits of aim assist and reduced recoil from controller mixed with the benefits of movement from mouse and keyboard. Activision has now updated its Ricochet anti-cheat system to detect and eventually suspend or ban players using this third-party hardware. The Ricochet anti-cheat system will initially display a warning to players it has detected using this hardware. Players that cheat in Rainbow Six Siege by using third-party devices will notice more input latency that will mess with their aim. Unplugging the devices will bring the latency back to normal. Epic Games, Ubisoft, and Activision are now in an ongoing cat-and-mouse game with the developers of this third-party hardware. Destiny 2 and Overwatch are both suffering from cheaters using these devices, too. Skip to main content The Verge The Verge logo. The Verge homepage. The Verge The Verge logo.

Earlier in , Team RICOCHET announced the Replay Investigation Tool and revealed that captured gameplay data was converted into videos internally, where the team could then review player matches and spot problematic behavior. While the Replay Investigation Tool has been effective, it is not necessarily a timely way to deal with potential cheaters. While some hacks, such as "rage hacking", are easy to spot the Replay Investigation Tool made it easier for the team to pinpoint more stealthy cheat mechanics, such as wall hacking.
