Despite being one of the most powerful and mysterious enemies that the Z-Fighters had ever faced in the history of Dragon Balljiren haven't seen much of Jiren within the canon story of the franchise, jiren. Dragon Ball Super's Tournament of Power introduced this character as the ultimate powerhouse for whom Goku had to unlock a divine technique to defeat and was considered to be a one-man army for Universe However, despite his overwhelming power, Jiren was defeated by Universe 7 and hasn't been seen since jiren end of the tournament. Within the series, Jiren hails from Universe 11, a parallel universe to Universe 2. He is the strongest member of the Pride Troopers, a heroic organization who are organized around defending their universe from evildoers. Jiren is the primary antagonist and anti-villain of the Universal Survival Saga of Dragon Ball Super , where eight person teams compete in the multiverse -oriented Tournament of Power to ensure the survival of their respective universes. Jiren is considered to be the strongest among the participating competitors, as his power is said to rival or even surpass those of the universes' deities; his goal is to be given access to the Super Dragon Balls by winning the tournament. He quickly establishes a rivalry with series protagonist Goku , the two of them engaging in a series of intense battles that eventually leads to Goku developing a new ability. Jiren has received an overall mixed critical reception. Some reviewers have praised his involvement in the series, whereas others criticized his backstory as unpersuasive and shallow. Jiren is an extraterrestrial being with a humanoid stature. His visage is reminiscent of the grey alien archetype, with a pair of grey eyes that has enlarged black pupils and a very muscular physique. Jiren's visual design for the Dragon Ball Super manga is illustrated by Toyotarou , although his initial concept underwent some significant corrections by Toriyama as oversight for the final product. One major difference is that Toriyama inverted Toyotarou's body design for Jiren, by reducing the thickness of his lower body and accentuating his upper body. Toriyama also spread apart Jiren's eyes and drew it to be more square in shape.

Jiren then launches a final attack, but the combined teamwork of Goku, Frieza and Android 17 manages to overwhelm jiren eliminate him, jiren, allowing Universe 7 to win the tournament.

The Ultimate Survival Battle!! Jiren has displayed little personality on his own accord, a stark contrast to the other members of the Pride Troopers from his respective universe, all of whom are bombastic to the point of boorishness. What minimal personality he has displayed has shown an emulous personality, [4] [6] he will fight to crush the enemy, but doesn't partake in unnecessary cruelty; on both occasions, he used what he deemed enough force to dominate the enemy and render them unconsciousness [5] or knocked from the arena. Due to his quiet, and calm demeanor, Jiren often grunts in astonishment. Jiren, to those he respects, he honors by calling them warriors. Jiren has also shown himself to be a man of principles, in spite of his comrades. When Toppo sacrificed his ideals of justice for power, and subsequently lost to Vegeta , Jiren was notably disgusted with the former, but praised the latter for defeating Toppo and attaining his strength without compromising who he was as a fighter and a person.

The primary antagonist of the Tournament of Power, though not a traditional villain, Jiren lived in Goku's head rent-free after their first bout left him twitching in a pile of rubble. The Pride Trooper's strength is so absolute that even his own universe's God of Destruction freely admits that Jiren is far beyond him in power. Considering that Gods of Destruction set the new bar for power levels in Super , the question on every fan's mind during the Tournament was the same: how did Jiren get so strong?

Jiren mixing his massive power output with his already incredible mental fortitude makes Ultra Instinct the perfect next step for him. He is a very brave, disciplined, focused and observant man, constantly watching and studying his environment to better prepare for any new threat. Vegeta Falls!! Jiren made his first video game appearance in Super Dragon Ball Heroes , as well as its promotional anime. Vegeta criticizes Jiren for wanting a selfish wish, prompting Jiren to attack him, but Goku resurfaces and the two Saiyans manage to fight back. Jiren is first shown meditating, prior to being invited by the Pride Troopers, and Vermoud to participate in the Tournament of Power.

In the anime, when Jiren was a child, he returned to his house and found that his parents were killed by a villain. He was saved by Gicchin , who would become his teacher and took him away to improve his strength. Later, with his allies, Gicchin's other students, they fought the villain, but most of his friends and even his teacher died.
