She is the main vocalist and visual in the co-ed group KARD. She represents the letter R and the BlackJokeR.

Somin has two older sisters. Twice member Jeongyeon is also a distant relative of Somin, where she is the niece of the wife of Somin's uncle. They were planning to debut in South Korea as well. On August 24, , Somin debuted again as a member of the girl group April. She left the group in November to focus on her studying.
