We can't give tours, and are not open to the public. Kind of an insurance problem, as you can imagine if you have seen the show. We have a long history of doing visual effects for movies and commercials, in fact have done almost a thousand of them over the last 20 years. By we, I mean myself and numerous artisans in the San Francisco area that I have worked with or who have worked for me at M5 or Colossal Pictures when it was still around. This kind of work has always been done here on a free lance basis, and most of the craftspeople and my company, M5, are spin offs of the momentum created by the Star Wars legacy out of Lucasfilm at San Rafael. To be straight, I never worked on any of them, but there have been hundreds of people over the last decades in the bay area that have, and the model shop at ILM, M5, Colossal pictures and other shops around here shared this resource and help provide their livelihood.

He is also the owner of M5 Industries , the special effects workshop where MythBusters was filmed. He was an early competitor in Robot Wars , but his robot Blendo was deemed too dangerous for competition. He is also one of the designers of the aerial cable robotic camera system Wavecam used in sports and entertainment events. Hyneman was born in Marshall, Michigan , and grew up on a farm in Columbus, Indiana. He said, "I was a problematic kid, to be sure. I left home when I was 14 and hitchhiked all over the country. He earned a degree in Russian linguistics from Indiana University. In November , Hyneman was appointed professor of practice at LUT University in Lappeenranta , Finland , for a five-year term until November , and gave his first lecture on prototypes on November 18, He received an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Villanova University on May 16, , and gave a commencement address.

And to confirm or bust the myths, the team usually has to do several tests and jerry-rig a way to make explosions happen.
