Ever felt guilty about feeling guilty? This is exactly what I am talking about. As moms, we put so much pressure on ourselves to get it right. We fret, worry, and plan for all the eventualities. We put intention into the ways we raise our children, how we treat our children and what we teach our children. We sacrifice our time, our bodies, our careers and much of our personal lives because we love them and we want to do what is best for them.

A few days ago, I posted a photo to Instagram about how being a mom sucks. It received so much positive feedback that I needed to expand on it to reach even more mamas. We say that being a mom is the most beautiful, powerful thing a woman can do. We say that being a mom is amazing and you become overfilled with joy. Sometimes though, being a mom is tough as shit. I want a clean house and a hot cup of coffee. I want to sleep past 5 am on the weekends. I want to shower regularly and have time to do my hair in the mornings. Society tells us that we have to LOVE being a mother every second of every day or we are terrible and selfish. Wanting to sleep past 5 am on the weekends and shower daily is not frivolous luxury, it is a simple pleasure that people without kids take for granted. Wanting a career should not be a requirement, but a passion. There is enough pressure on mothers as is. Your baby needs you, money is not important. In fact, you are amazing and you freaking rock. Is this satire now? I feel like I used to know what that was but I think I lost it somewhere along the way during my Wild Adventures in Blogging. People seem to have created this new, vague definition. Anyway, back to my perfection. Complete with police uniform, perfectly curled hair and a baby under each arm. Secondly, I appreciate it when people curb their language for children. And yeah, it kind of sucks when some asshole heh… heheh, irony is fun is cursing up a storm three feet from my perfect and innocent offspring, but hey, welcome to reality.
