R or W?? Thread Tools. I see the chassis code for these cars referred to both as a W and as an R Which one is correct for this car?? A few goodies on the car itself -- Brilliant Emerald metallic, parchment interior, 57K miles, never hit or damaged except for a spot of "curb rash" on one part of the bottom of the front bumper , an all original car. Stitching on the original black soft top isn't even discolored

Hey guys, I've been driving an 03 Volvo S60 base with the 5-speed for a couple of years now at around 35, miles a year and it's getting far enough along in its life that I'm starting to lose a little trust. I'm also just getting a bit bored. I drive across the Causeway to New Orleans every day for school so 50 miles of my 85 mile commute is 65mph and straight as an arrow, so the comfort of the Volvo has been appreciated and I'm not sure I could endure much worse. My first car was a 95 E Diesel with over k miles and it was still amazingly solid, so I have a bit of a soft spot for that era of Mercedes. A manual is a must for me, a convertible is nice for a couple months, and I imagine it'll be quite comfy. So what do I need to look out for?

Mercedes experience has taught me the value of starting my research up to a year or so before my purchase, then finding the right car and then gradually making it really solid. So may I ask what do you all consider the best year s for the SL, and more importantly why? I know from my experiences that the M engine is fairly bulletproof double TT hose not withstanding; mine is now replaced with metal one and that the I would welcome all of your thoughts and experiences, as my car will be purchased in either North America or UK and then likely shipped to a far more remote country where reliable MB servicing is rare.
