After weeks of buildup, Cody Rhodes and Shinsuke Nakamura stepped into the ring on Monday to see if they could put this feud to bed once and for all. Let's take a look at what CM Punk had to say and everything else that happened on Monday's show. Raw opened with Drew McIntyre in the ring talking about how he came up short last week in his quest to win the world title. After a couple of minutes of ranting, CM Punk made his way to the ring. The Scottish Warrior ripped into Punk for various reasons. Tensions rose, but The Best in the World said he was going to walk away before it turned into a fight.

As WWE continues to build toward WrestleMania 40, the promotion appeared to use Raw on Monday night to plant the final seeds for one of the year's biggest matches. As Jey Uso was on the verge of ending Gunther's record-breaking run as intercontinental champion in the show's main event, Jimmy Uso intervened to cost his twin brother the title. Jimmy's interference came as Jey seemingly had the title won. Jimmy then added insult to injury by continuing to assault his brother after the match ended. This will almost certainly lead to the Usos facing off in singles action at WrestleMania, which takes place on April 6 and 7 from Philadelphia. Intercontinental Championship -- Gunther c def. Jey Uso via pinfall to retain the title after reversing an Uso Splash into a pin. The main event saw Uso ready to end Gunther's record-setting reign as champion after hitting an Uso Splash late in the match. But as the referee counted the pin, the bell began ringing prematurely. It was revealed that Jimmy Uso was ringing the bell to cause a distraction. Jey eventually dove onto Jimmy outside the ring and attempted another splash onto Gunther, only this time the champion put his knees up and rolled up Jey for the victory. After the match, Jimmy entered the ring and continued attacking Jey, saying he would "always be the big brother. While it doesn't feel ideal to relegate the record-setting intercontinental champion to a bit player in the Uso vs. Uso storyline, WWE had to find a "big moment" to set up a seemingly inevitable match between the two.

Back-and-forth action defined the bout, with neither man gaining a sustained advantage for most of it. The two men traded signature moves, strikes and countered each other's finishers, refusing to let the other deliver the knockout blow that decided the outcome. Instead, it would be the interfering Jimmy Uso who distracted the official and allowed Solo Sikoa to flatten Rhodes with the Samoan Spike, setting the men's Royal Rumble winner up for the Claymore as McIntyre scored the win. The finish was right out of WrestleMania 39, where Sikoa came from the crowd shrouded in black and delivered the Samoan Spike to cost Rhodes the match against Roman Reigns.

The tension was quickly broken by Sheamus, who took exception to Edge's remarks. Sizing up both Superstars, The Ultimate Opportunist spoke of the big target currently on McIntyre's back before making it clear that he would be thinking over who he was going to challenge before making his decision. The Best in the World was once thought to be unlikely to ever step foot in a WWE ring again, but as the saying goes, never say never in professional wrestling. Saturday's pay-per-view also featured the babyface teams picking up wins in both WarGames matches, Rhea Ripley and Gunther retaining their respective championships, and Santos Escobar scoring a win over Dragon Lee. Monday's Raw featured the first comments from Punk following his return as well as all of the fallout from the pay-per-view. Raw opened with a video recapping what went down at Survivor Series with a heavy emphasis on the return of CM Punk. We then got a brand new intro for Raw including different music. Randy Orton came out to kick things off to a huge pop from the crowd.

Before a brawl between the six women could break out, Nia Jax appeared and proceeded to lay out each one of them before standing tall, an emphatic response to Ripley's claim that she isn't good enough to beat her.
With the Royal Rumble more than a month away, WWE used Monday night's edition of Raw to deliver solid wrestling and continue building toward the Day One edition of Raw to kick off the new year. The show featured a trio of title matches, including one title change.
