So far, you know how to add storage disks to your network and view them. But how do you get those items in and out in an automated way? If you want to get items out of your storage network, use an Exporter and connect it to an inventory where you want to export to. Configure the filter slots of the Exporter to the items you want to export. If you want to get items in your storage network, use an Importer and connect it to an inventory where you want to import from.

I think that its unfair of Cptqrk to call it a "copy" of AE1 - if anything I would say it's inspired by both, but falls much more into a sort of "AE 1, refined storage system. Refined Storage is a storage mod where you can build a storage network made up of devices. Those devices manipulate your storage. A Disk Drive can contain item or fluid storage disks. Those disks will provide your storage network with storage. If you insert or extract an item, it will use the data on your disks. Through that block, you can modify your storage which will modify the data on your disks.
Items and fluids can be stored in one of the many storage capabilities that the mod offers. Any storage devices connected to the same network are accessible to the player through one simple Grid interface, allowing the player to access the inventories of many devices through a single unified GUI. This mod not only adds storage solutions, but also devices that can be used to manipulate items and blocks in the world and from within the system, such as importers, exporters, constructors, destructors, and more! You can validate this by checking the modlist of your modpack.

An AE2 SSD is a good example of a large number of channels while actually only one channel is needed. I tried reverting to an older version of the modpack, as this is a beta, but that did not help. AE takes the needed items out of the system and puts them in the Crafting Storage Unit whereas Refined Storage takes items directly from the system for usage and crafts more if required. Not that AE2 isn't better or anything, which it is, just kind of leaves a hole in my heart seeing as I grew fond of RS for quick setups that didn't require any planning when it came to expanding it.

From using both, I'd have to say that AE2 offers more power to do things but at the price of more complexity. The "AE2 Stuff" addon fixes this for crafting recipes, but not processing patterns.
