Speak With Dead is one of the most useful non-combat spells in Baldur's Gate 3. Although it seems like something a Cleric would know, the ability isn't inherent to any race or class, and Warlocks and Sorcerers can also put this incantation in their spellbook. Wizards of the Necromancy school can learn it from a scroll for a more economical price than others. There are a variety of ways the Speak With Dead spell can be used, by any race or class, depending on the character's unique build. There are some rules to follow when it comes to using it, and many corpses that won't be inclined to chat under any circumstances, no matter what magic compels them. A common issue with Speak With Dead is the frustrating disclaimer that appears when the corpse doesn't feel like talking to the person who killed them. It's fair, but rude.

Acquiring the ability to speak to the dead in Baldur's Gate 3 isn't exactly a massive priority, but, if like me, you struggle to resist your Necromantic tendencies, it's a fun one to have. There may not be a full Necromancer subclass in the game yet, but there is a school of Necromancy-related magics, including the ability to Animate Dead, and yes, even have a nice little chinwag. If you want to skip over all that noise and have Thieves' Tools , you can keep heading east past the Chapel Entrance, down the vines, and unlock the hatch that leads straight down into the Dank Crypt. The easiest way to do this is to shoot the hanging rock in the Chapel entrance and jump down through the hole in the floor it creates. You'll find a tonne of bandits inside, but you can just shoot the explosive barrel through the door to kill them all. After using the switch in the library, you can get through into the crypt itself.
