Amsterdam is a beautiful city. It is very charming. I was however disappointed by the city by and large due to other tourist. I didn't anticipate Amsterdam to be full of college age European rich kids. As an average American couple it seemed that my husband and I stuck out in the crowd. Europeans in general are dressier than Americans , but in the evenings some dressed as they were on a Paris runaway while walking through the Red Light District. Just be prepared if you are going , that it's not the 'hippy' crowd that you may expect due to the relaxed views on marijuana use and prostitution.

We were given tickets by my son for a show in the Carre, tripadvisor amsterdam, it was my first time in this theater, its a great old building Next day we saw the famous Kukenhoff gardens.

If you plan to use public transit a lot, multi-day tickets quickly save you money though everything is so close, you may just end up walking. Very special to see selected works from this private collection which is graciously loaned from its NY based owners concentrated on Rembrandt and his followers.
