This means that for our purposes, outside of a couple of niche cases, we will be ignoring raid buffs for the most part. You should always ensure that your raid has all of the possible buffs, but there are numerous places to get each one, meaning with a moderately diverse raid comp you should be fine.

Tier lists can often be a helpful tool to decide which class and specialization to play. Ultimately, the decision of which class is the most fun to play is different for each player. One basic metric to use is the amount of damage that a particular class can output in any given scenario or their Damage Per Second DPS. The majority of classes are middle of the pack in terms of performance, however, there are some obvious winners and losers throughout the expansion.

That being said, their damage overall is still a bit weaker than the classes in the tiers above. The specialization is unique due to how mana-hungry it is. These are the DPS specializations that you will always see at least one of, but should expect to see multiple of given their strength. Arcane has the potential to top the damage meters since ToGC encounters are fairly short. It encounters the same issue as with all the low-tier specializations where unique effects such as Replenishment are instantly replaced by better specializations such as Retribution Paladin or Shadow Priest. Frost Death Knights remain pretty much in the same spot as in the previous phase, albeit with one major mention. In the end, both specs have the potential for tremendous amounts of damage, and it really depends on player skill as much as the specialization itself. Incredibly, our utility also saw a buff in WotLK. That being said, they find themselves in quite a sweet spot, especially since there is no abundance of Armor Penetration to help them ascend to a higher tier. They retain the same utility spells Ritual of Souls , Create Soulstone , and Ritual of Summoning and crowd-control as the other two Warlock Specializations, with Fear being just as useful for a few specific trash mobs. Destruction Warlocks Destruction Warlock brings a lot of utility spells to the table as well as having excellent burst damage. Besides proving that they can dish out tremendous amounts of damage in Single-Target Encounters, they also possess excellent cleave damage thanks to multi-dotting and AoE damage thanks to Mind Sear. The spec is currently outperforming its Balance counterpart on single target benchmarks in ToGC and Ulduar, but not by an enormous margin, and both are numerically below average. That being said, Death Knights bring amazing damage overall without really needing to change their builds, which makes them great additions to the raid in any situation. However, the real reason for the spec's very high overall ranking in this guide is its S-tier raid utility, which makes it a mandatory pick for pretty much any raid composition. Besides their great damage capabilities, they encounter the same issues with their utility abilities as they encountered during the previous phases of the expansion. Assassination Rogues find themselves in the top spots of the DPS charts in the first Phase, commonly considered to be one of the best damage-dealing specs.
