Before you begin, please take a few minutes to read through this section. Because of the sheer amount of information included on each page, special attention has been paid to the layout of the tables and images in this guide. A large amount of maps were archived in the source code, albeit with a lot of them being subject to what was either corruption, or incorrect parameters. Despite this, these maps give us an incredibly informative glimpse regarding how the region of Kanto evolved over time. The earliest known iteration of Kanto, which appears to date back to around While the overworld layout had already been established, many of the routes at this point are just blank roads, and several cities have practically nothing interesting in them. The tileset used is also much simpler and cruder than in later iterations, with perspective namely being amiss, and the art style being radically different. The Makai Toushi SaGa inspiration is on full force here. Though in surprisingly good shape, this early Kanto does however contain instances of maps using the wrong blocks.
It's time to journey north to Viridian City. If it faints, head home to get a little tender loving care from Mom, then continue onward to Viridian City. You begin your journey at the southern end of Route 1, and must travel north. Route 1 is very peaceful, and doesn't contain many interesting features. As a result, there's not a lot of things to do as you make your way to Viridian City. The first person you will encounter is a man who offers you a free Potion. Don't miss out on that. Be careful that they don't wear you down, and stick with your damage-dealing regular attacks. To avoid the fights altogether, spend as little time as possible walking through the grassy areas. The layout of Cerulean Cave and the items you can obtain here are vastly different in Yellow compared to Red and Blue, so the walkthrough has been split into two sections. Yellow players should click here to scroll to the appropriate section. Cerulean Cave is full of dangerous yet highly rewarding encounters, averaging over 1, experience points per fight. Red , Blue , and Yellow —in addition to Green in Japan—were re-released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service on Nintendo eShop as emulated versions of the originals, in as a commemoration of the franchise's 20th anniversary.
